Hello everyone I know it has been awhile
but to say things have been crazy is the understatement of the century. I hope you are well and safe and if not I will sent thoughts, prayers and good vibes your way. This has honestly been a weird and crazy year personally for me. My life has not been easy but I’m working though it with a lot of good people who have back as well Being there for my friends and family who have or are going through similar or worse issues. I would like to thank all of you who have/are helping my friends , family, and I through all of this it truly means a lot . Thank you... I am writing this post because at the time I write this the podcast is on a couple of weeks breaks due to my cohost helping her family deal with personal matters..... originally this is where I put the words let’s get this started but as I was editing this Gen aka Ditz let me know that her stepdad who helped raise her had passed after a long battle with past health issues that I wouldn’t get into here I will let her tell you if she wants to. We postponed the recording of our show due to her being with her family during this time . She has been nothing but a positive influence in my life and I feel for what she is going through. In O2 I went through similar issues with my own father (listen to episode 10 of shake the sheets for more info). A lot of my friends and family have lost someone they loved during this time. So I will leave you with this. Please be kind and helpful to one another. It will help make this insane world a better place. Check in with your friends, family and loved ones from time to time and f you are able and it is safe to do give them a hug and tell them you love them...... much love Nate Mc.

Warning may contain spoilers..... you have been warned.....
It has been a while since I posted here. Things have been so busy with podcast, work, life, and other things going on that I had not had the time to post as much as I had wanted to. Originally this post was going to many separate post/reviews. We have a lot to cover so let’s get this started......... Going into the HBO Watchmen I had my expectations set to low. It was originally advertised as a show “set” in the watchmen universe created by Alan More and Dave Gibbons. So I figured they would hint at or just cherry pick what they wanted to use.... I had no idea it was a straight up sequel to the original 12 issue comic mini series and that was smart of them to do that. The tv series was well written and acted and wonderfully put together. The use of licensed music was awesome, meaningful, and well used(the title of the season finale may make no sense until you hear it in the song used at the last scene and end credits then everything comes together and you go omg!!!!) and the original score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails fame did a wonderful job to fit in ,convey, build tension, and move the chaos going on. You could still enjoy the series without reading the original story but to get all of the in jokes And references reading the graphic novel is a must! New characters are added creatively into the universe and old characters are further explained, fleshed out and carefully added to this story. This is something that dc has spent years to do and constantly failed at... created a worthy sequel to the watchmen. This was so much better than the 2009 movie. Even though they ended it well I want more but if they don’t do a second season I’m fine with that too because it ended on such a high note... Yes if you are wondering by my long winded thought I did like and enjoy the show very much!!! Next up is the Mandalorian on Disney+ The Star Wars spin off I didn’t know I needed in my life!! This show had me hooked from the first episode. It felt more like Star Wars than most of the films made since the original trilogy. This honestly reminded me why I love Star Wars so much. Yes Baby Yoda aka the child is the Urkle, Fonz, or Bubbles of the show as the popular breakout character that most of the people will most associate with the show. Pedro Pascal ( Game of Thrones) as the Mandalorian is amazing and a great addition to be one my favorite Star Wars characters. The cast is great! I didn’t know how much I liked Former MMA Star Gina Carano until now. This show gave her moments to really shine as an actress. If you are a fan of Star Wars or space westerns this is a must watch. Let’s stay in a galaxy far far away..... as I share my thoughts on Star Wars Rise of Skywalker aka Episode IX. Yes I did enjoy the film it was a fun movie! It made me clap, cheer, cry and excited but........ was it perfect No it wasn’t. Unlike the Marvel cinematic universe Disney had no idea what they wanted to do on a film front as in making a cohesive story. On a business front however that have that planned to a science (long story on how know that I will explain at a different time this blog post is already long enough as it is, but half of what I saw in that video back that Disney asked me to watch in 2018 has ready come to fruition). This felt more like let’s fix what the fans didn’t like about the last Jedi and cram 3 movie worth of info into about 2 1/2 . It felt rush and new additions to the cast felt like they didn’t have enough time to breathe. Was it a bad movie? By no means no! Was it going to replace Empire strikes back as the greatest Star Wars films? no! but I did think it was better that the prequel trilogy( I did like episodes 2 and 3). Some of you have already asked me what I thought about the new Ghostbusters afterlife trailer. I’m actually excited for it. I feel that this movie will do what 2016 film should have done by being connected to the original but introduces new characters. Not leave it up to the the talented people at IDW comics to fix the mess that Paul Feig and crew messed up. Most of you who didn’t read my post about the 2016 film will know I was angry about the film but my anger was directed at Paul Feig and Sony pictures for trying to make us ghostbusters fans out to be women haters or afraid of things that are new then proceed to release a film that was poorly written, paced, and edited and blame on how poorly your film did at the box office on the toxic fandom that they created by deleting well thought out constructive criticisms by the film wouldn’t work form message boards and YouTube comments . Like I said back then I loved the cast but they were expected to make chicken salad out of chicken $#!+. You can tell a group of people at Sony want this to become a thing. Ghostbusters has a loyal fan base and we are a forgiving bunch until you attack us(see above). Some commentators have already tried to stir the pot by saying things like see what this toxic fandom as done caused them to make another ghostbusters movie or it's a Stranger Things rip-off but news to these highly paid internet trolls they have been trying to make a third film since the 1990s even having a script leak called ghostbusters hellbent that elements of the script was used to make the 2009 ghostbusters video game and it’s 2019 remaster. By the way Stranger things is a rip off every media that was made 80s in general made to be a love letter to the decade. It looks like it will be good and I hope it is so my grandchildren can enjoy more Ghostbusters. On that note its time for me to end this post before it becomes longer than Netflix’s the Irishmen. I would like to thank everyone for everything that they had done for me over the past year and I want to wish you all a happy holiday season. Reminder new episodes of the humble podcast known as Shake the Sheets will return in January 2020 as we begin our third season. Which you can find here on the main page of this website or wherever you choose to download or stream podcast from on that note. much love Nate Mc. I’m back with another review. This time I review the “live action” remake of the Disney animate classic( and one of my personal favorites) The Lion King. I will share the good and the bad and my thoughts in between. WARING MAY CONTAIN SPOLIERS(Granted it’s a remake of a 25 year old movie) so without further ado Let’s get this started..............
The one major positive with this film is it’s absolutely gorgeous! The animation is spot on and yes I said animation because it’s a cgi animated film made to look live action and that’s where they excelled. Everything including the scenery was fun and beautiful too look at. The animals looked great and moved realistic you could tell the filmmakers did their homework which is something Disney has been known for! Next is the music and sound . This was a mix bag. These songs are iconic and with the exception of one (we will get to that very soon) are included along with New song Spirit and He lives in you which was from the broadway play and the lion king 2 direct to video sequel of the animated original and for the most part sound great. I was disappointed that Be Prepared was shortened and impact was muted as it was my favorite from the original yet some songs and scenes I felt were extended. This film ran 30 mins longer than the original so I am wondering if they shorten it due to the perceived Nazi like imagery that is illegal in Germany in the original sequence accompanying the song Be prepared. The voice cast was a mix bag as talented as everyone was some tried their best sound like the original and not bring anything really new to the experience. Everything just felt rather muted!(common feeling I had with this movie in general) no one stood out as doing a bad job but I just felt like it was just there. James Earl Jones performance felt off to me sometimes it was good but there was a couple of moments it felt phoned in. John Oliver as Zazu was not as good as Rowan Atkinson’s Zazu But Beyoncé was good as Adult Nala. Seth Rogen as Puma overshadowed Billy Eichner’s Timon(who had a great singing voice) unlike Nathan Lane’s Timon and Donald Glover didn’t stand out and adult Simba. Other critics have said this was a shot for shot remake of the original but it actually isn’t. There is a few changes to scenes most notably during the middle and final act. This by far wasn’t a bad movie but it more felt as a HD remake that couldn’t get the original cast. It won’t be as fondly remembered as the original and kinda of reminded me of a stage group of doing a great rendition of a broadway play it hit the beats but wasn’t as good as the original. So next for next time........... Much love Nate Mc. I’m sorry it’s been awhile since I made a post but I’m glad you all are enjoying the podcast! We actually had the most downloads in our show’s history in April for that I say thank you so much. We are working on the sound issues as Ditz and learn as we go. Most of you don’t realize we are producing and recording show with no sponsors and no budget and yet we continue to grow. Thank you all for your support!!!! But that’s not why I’m here!!! This week I’m going to cover a wide array of topics of things that that caught my eye. There will be something for everyone so let’s get this started.........................
Despite what the internet led you to believe. The Game of Thrones finale was not the worst. I could actually think of 10 series finales that were way worse (how I met your mother I’m looking at you) I just felt it was setting up for the spinoff ,prequel series and the potential movie down the road. I do think Peter Dinklage deserves the Emmy for his acting ability and why Everyone was hoping Tyrion was going to make it to the end. I did learn one thing through out the series. It pays to drink and learn things...... Rammstein proved they are metal legends with the release of their untitled album(which I will refer to as Match as that is the singular object on the cover). Probably the best album I have heard in a couple of years. They have definitely took AC/DC’S approach to longevity “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” and to be honest Rammstein may be one of the few bands that can get away with it. This summer as been big for movies! Avengers, Pikachu, Shazam and John Wick have paved the way for Spider-Man, Godzilla, and Toy Story to make this a great summer for films! Yes I did like Detective Pikachu So what! All Elite Wrestling (AEW)recently held their first event Double or Nothing last week to good reviews. The promotion founded by the Khan family(owners of the NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars) and ran by Tony Khan, Cody and Brandi Rhodes, Nick and Matt Jackson a.k.a. The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega is the first major wrestling promotion since the closing of World Championship Wrestling(WCW) in 2001 (not 20 years ago like everyone has been saying.....wait this is Wrestling everyone rounds up! Well played!well played! ) The event was actually good of a first show. There were some production issues but overall a good card. I think in time WWE will finally have competition. Which is something WWE needs due to stale creative and falling ratings. I hope this rivalry brings out the best in both promotions which will benefit both the talent and fans and hopefully bring many years success to everyone in the Wrestling business! As as I write this the Saint Louis Blues are tied with the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals with a game apiece. Not to jinx it all I’m going to say is Let’s go Blues!!!!!!!!!!! I want to thank you all for reading my post it does mean a lot to me. I plan to do many post down the road but I won’t say when because everytime I do something comes up and each post gets delayed. But I hope you all continue to listen to the podcast and read my blog Much love Nate Mc. Originally posted 8/17/14 this was the first review I have ever wrote
Hello again this will be my frist review. Just so you know I will not just be doing reviews I like to mix things up a bit and not everyone will be about wrestling but I will try to review every ppv so lets get on with it lol. When going into tonight I had the feeling it was going be a good summer slam but when I usually go in with that feeling I'm usually let down..... But I wasn't actually I enjoyed this card it for the most part held up its definitely worth a repeat view. Now on to the negative I understand that they being the WWE had sponsors but the shilling was way to much it seemed like every 5mins I was reminded about pizza rolls or mtn. dew and some issues with the matches them selves but I will break each match down. Here we go... pre show match Rvd vs Cesaro I actually didn't know much going in to this I may have missed it or they did no promotion for it but I used to be a big rvd fan but that was in ecw.. Tonight cesaro was the star sadly he did not have the best person to work with I was let down it seem when rvd wrestles he is in slow motion winner: rvd match rating from a plus or minus scale rating - now on to the ppv the opening video had this cool grind house feel to it much like the promos we seen before match 1 IC championship match the Miz vs dolph ziggler this was an awesome start to the actual event dolph prove to me that he has it. I actually enjoyed the Miz in this match( this I think is a first) these two can really work well together and I was glad to see ziggler win winner: and new ic champion dolph ziggler rating: + match 2 divas championship aj lee vs Paige now going into its match I had low expectations .....ok when I say low I mean very low expectations I am not a fan of aj and less of a fan of Paige but this was entertaining I like the fact that Paige toyed with aj and the reversals kept me glued to the screen even after the match Paige kept playing the mind games. I have a question to ask who do u think she toying with aj, us or herself? Plus Paige plays a better heel winner: and new divias champ paige rating: + match 3 the flag match rusev vs jack swagger ok I'm sorry but I did not like the fact that WWE changed the rules of a flag match. The rules are usually like capture the flag rules where u either get your own flag or your opponents this on the other hand was a normal match with the winner getting the flag and national anthem played in sorry I couldn't get over that fact but the match did tell a great story and showed that Lana must take acting lessons from Sofia Vargra but still the fact that WWE change what a flag match was took me out of it winner: rusev rating: wrestling + but the rules - now on to match 4 Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose in a lumberjack match usually I would name all of the lumberjacks but it was pretty much everyone else including Kane that was not involved in a match. But that was good this match was what I expected a complete melee some people on twitter were put off by it but I and others thought it picked things up a bit the crowd really got into it. After Kane caused more chaos and Seth hit dean with the briefcase and won. Even though dean lost I was happy. This is not by far the end of this war . winner: Seth Rollins rating: + match 5 Bray Wyatt vs y2j Chris Jericho this was what I expected it to be as well and it was nice to see that a match can be slow and have a story that was good and be good after following the last match y2j proves why he is one of the best in the business and Bray Wyatt is definitely the future I was glad to actually see a rest hold in a match and I also like the promo that followed winner: Bray Wyatt rating: + match 6 Stephanie McMahon vs brie bella ok I have to give props to Steph for her skill. She was great for not wrestling in 10 years and after 3 kids so... What the hell is brie's excuse I was never a fan of the bellas and this did not help neither did the fact that Nikki Bella did the heel turn that everyone and I mean everyone predicted and also the fact that I am expected to believe that brie can take out triple h and that Steph was dressed as mistress steph winner: Stephanie McMahon rating: steph's performance + the rest of the match - match 7 Roman Reigns vs Randy Orton I honestly forgot all about this match and after watching it I see why it was hard for me to enjoy but both men did very well Orton really carried this match and was very smooth and showed us why he is one of the greatest WWE superstars but I couldn't help feel kinda like ehh when roman won. Then need to let him grow a little and get more experience before making him wwe heavyweight champion but over all it was a good match winner: roman reigns rating: a hesitating + now on to the main event match 8 for the WWE world heavyweight championship Brock lesnar vs John cena this was a great main event . it was short brutal and to the point and why not Brock is the man who ended the streak this built Brock to be the monster that he is sorry cena fans but this was awesome winner: new WWE world heavyweight champion Brock lesnar like I said above this was great. here is a fun fact as it was pointed out to me on twitter by @iamtheswink that this was the first time since WWE summerslam 91 that all titles defeneded changed hands I hope you all enjoyed this review and I like to thank all of my friends and family for all of there love and support now and for the past 30 years of my life and special to one of my best friends Scott hunter and to Alice Radley for encouraging me to create this blog I would appreciate for your honest opinion on how I am doing with this blog you can email me at [email protected] and follow me on Twitter @natemcgonigal. Hope you all enjoy much love Nate mc. originally posted as a social media post not as a blog on 9/17/18
this was originally going to e another post due to the wrong date after the title I cleaned it up and add more to it hopefully it makes more sense lol Well this morning I said I learned something big, but first I would like To say thank you to all of you who gave me support over the years and stuck by me through thick and thin and gave me encouragement. About a month ago Ditz came to me after following me on twitter and reading my blog asked me “have you ever thought about doing a podcast because you are so talented” of course I said in nate fashion “maybe” then I thought it over and said yes. So we moved my blog over to the newly made shakethesheets.com then a few days later we recorded our first episode and released it on our website. The best way to describe what our humble little podcast is about it’s an entertainment podcast that tackles adult issues and how those issues effect our pop culture. Well weeks went on and stitcher accepted us after 3 episodes instead of 5 like they told us the very next day we were on google play. We have been enjoying rising numbers in listeners and getting great feed back and support from all of you. I thank you all very much so.......... this leads me to the big announcement.... Starting today you can now download, listen and subscribe to our podcast Shake the Sheets on..........iTunes through the Apple podcast app !!!!!!!!!! So now you can enjoy us everywhere. We would not have made it here if it wasn’t for you all again thank you. To make it easier I will post a link on where to find us and please give us a rating and review. Thank you all so very much. This has been a strange short ride and it home this is only the beginning I’m really excited to see what is coming. Thanks to the success of this podcast I have already been a special guest on the pro wrestling podcast The Curtain Jerkers where I discussed the all in Ppv and made predictions on last nights wwe hell in a cell (go listen to see how I did) it had already opened many doors. Most of all we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for any of you who listened and shared our podcast with our friends. So until next time..... much love Nate Mc. Hey everyone! I just wanted to say hello and just let you all in on things going on my end of this wonderful project. I stated on the second episode of the podcast I’m working on various albums reviews where I will pick a random album and give my thoughts track by track. Two album reviews are in the works as we speak. So keep an eye out for them. I also enjoy the amazing feedback from the past couple of weeks. I didn’t expect the praise, but I did learn something about my self. I found that I can’t listen to myself talk like some musicians or actors can’t watch or listen to their own performance. On the other hand I am glad and thankful that you all are enjoying my journey into the podcast world despite my hang ups and lack of experience. My cohost Ditz has been nothing but a great big help navigating me through all of this. Thanks to her I received an upgrade from iPhone earbuds to an amazing wireless headset. I am proud of how everything is coming along very well. I hope you all will join us along this adventure and please share us with your friends, family, neighbors, enemies, strangers, and college roommates or any person you deem worthy to listen to us. So until next time!
Much love Nate Originally posted 6/25/15
Hello everyone back in April I asked you guys what should the next blog be and alot of you wanted to know what were my favorite songs. So that's why we are here. Before i get this list going I have somethings that I want to explain. The songs that are featured on this list doesn't reflect what I'm listening to now. These are the songs that made such an impact on me that I still get the same enjoyment out of them years after when I first heard them and that have made it into every playlist I have made ever. So most songs from the last 5 years will not be in this list but if I did another list in twenty years you might see some from that period. Also this list does not reflect my favorite artist or albums because somethings are better as a whole but expect some overlap. That’s a list for another time. This is not a greatest songs of all time but my personal favorite as there is a difference in the two. Also there will not be any songs composed and written for videogames and pro wrestling but songs on this list have appeared in one or the other if not both. Last but not least I picked one song per artist. So lest get this started........ 10. Doubleback - ZZ top This song was the song that introduced me to rock music when I was little thanks to the movie Back to the future part 3. The song it self is the bands interpretation of the events of the movie. Plus the bands signature sound is like the icing on the cake. 9. Crazy - Seal Even though the covers by Mushroomhead and Alanis Morissette could have easily made it on this list. This song has a perfect melody and Seal's vocals perfectly meld with the melody. Useless trivia fact World Championship Wrestling used a knock off version as the theme of the historic 1996 bash at the beach pay per view where Hulk Hogan turned heel(bad guy) and joined Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to form the new World order 8. Money for nothing - Dire straits featuring Sting this has one of the best rifts in rock music and Sting’s backing vocals make a great song 20 times better . To me Mark Knopfler is not given enough credit for his musical genius 7. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd Its from the wall. Its Pink Floyd. Its awesome. Enough said......... 6. Yellow Leadbetter - Pearl jam This song is my chill out song. Eddie's vocals stick with you long after thumis song is over and the opening notes set the tone. I always find myself humming this song after every listen. 5. Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana This in my mind is the best nirvana song. From the heavy guitar to kurt's screaming vocals. The video definitely leaves a lasting impression 4. Roster - Alice in Chains "Ain't found a way to kill me yet" this line speaks to me on so many levels. Most of you who know me know that my life hasn't always been peaches and cream. This line has helped me through some tough times. Plus being in a song that slowly builds while speaking about the horrors of war is a bonus 3. For whom the bell tolls - Metallica "WOW a Metallica song this list that is shocking" .... Said nobody ever. another thing to know about me is I'm a sucker for a good Metallica song and this one in my mind is the best. Everything from the heart pounding intro to the vocals make you feel like warriors that the song talks about 2. Midlife Crisis - Faith No More This song struck a cord with me from the opening drums to Mike Patton's vocal range. This song has also aged pretty well 1. December - Collective Soul This is a song I first heard when I was in middle school and back then I loved it and now when I hear it on the radio I get a warm fuzzy feelings. I still enjoy this song the same way I did back then. The song is about a relationship gone south. But its darn catchy everything from the intro to the ending I'm sorry for the constant delays but due to technical difficulties it seemed that this list was destened to developmental hell but now I glad to bring this in its finished form. I truly appreciate all of the feed back and I hope u continue to enjoy. Please share on social media with others and I hope u enjoy what's to come until next time........ Much love Nate Mc. Welcome to the world of Nate. This blog in its original form has been read in over 15 different countries and by over 1500 people. The fact you are taking the time reading this really means alot to me. Thank you very much. I really enjoyed the positive feedback I received from my past post. The past few years have been bumpy but this blog has opened several doors that have had a positive impact on my life. From now on all new post will be here at the official website for my new podcast that I’m hosting with Ditz. The plan going forward is to make more frequent post and to transfer the old post with new content. The older post will be labeled with “redux” after the original title.
So you may be wondering what will this blog will be about. Well it will be my thoughts and views on music, tv, movies, comics, video games old and new and, sports, and last but not least pro wrestling and sports entertainment. I have been a fan of all of these things since I could remember and alot of you that know me personally know this to be true. Some have said my knowledge on entertainment and pop culture to be scary and useless lol but this blog will give me a chance to share my knowledge with all of you. I may throw in a review or two. I hope you will enjoy this blog. Feel free to share your thoughts by following me on twitter @natemcgonigal or leave comments below. I hope to hear from you soon! much love Nate Originally published 7/17/16 this was my last post before my 2 year hitaus but it also happens to be my most read post ever and the one I received a lot of positive feedback from. When I wrote this I had a lot of mixed feelings about this. I was very angry at the way everyone in the company or connected to the film handled theirselves in the build up to the film as you read below you will see my anger. On the other hand the blu-ray release that features the extended cut of the film fixed some of the issues with the film but not all. IDW comics also released a crossover comic with the original team that was a fun read and what I more hoped this film to be
I like to start off with saying normally my movie or TV reviews do not contain many spoilers but I feel I can't write this review without spoiling something so. WARNING WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS so with that said lets get this started........ Going into this I have heard and seen the war between the fans and Sony. In the end after seeing this movie I have lost all respect for Paul Feig who trashed everyone who had any issues with this film then later retracting any statements he had made. Next time Mr. Feig if you don't want us complaining about your film making. Make an Original great film and don't say that all who dislike the film are misogynist. Which I will explain below one of great things that saved your "just OK film" was the four talented female leads and if you and your writing partner knew what you are doing this would have the potential from being an OK film to begin a great film. OK rant over! Ghostbusters had many issues from pacing to hit you over the head references from the original. It would have been cool if they placed a cleaver nod here and there but they went completely overboard by the time you saw the haunted Stay Puft Marshmallow Man balloon you were burnt out. Some of the cameos were under used especially Ozzy Osbourne's. The plot borrowed heavily from the original 1984 film and the 2009 video game. And that everyone in the film except the Ghostbusters were portrayed to be idiots or very petty. And the trailers and clips used on talk shows appearances ruined many big moments that would have worked better as surprises. The last thing is I wish it took place in the same universe as the original. I honestly think it would have been a much better film Believe it or not they're things I liked including. Like how the four leads play off each other. The main villain was pretty cool. He wanted to end the world with ghost for his own needs. The best way to describe him was he was a combination of Dr. Janosez Poha from the second film Gozer and Ivo Shandor from the original and the video game with a little bit of Walter Peck sprinkled in. And the sequence of Slimmer stealing the not Ecto 1 Ecto 1(no that wasn't a typo) was very amusing followed by the line that Dr. Yates(McCarthy) afterwards that made me laugh. Despite what the trailers showed we did see a few funny moments. The transformation of the main villain was a cool sequence as well. If a sequel is made I would prefer them to tie both universes together like the X-men did with days of future past which is possible. In Dan Aykroyd's original treatment for the original he had the Ghostbusters time traveling and dimension hopping something that Gozer From the original has done in the comics, video games, and even referenced to in the first film. The knowledge that the cab driver(Aykroyd) has of what's going on and the end credit name drop hints at this My final verdict is this movie was OK if not decent. It was however better than Ghostbusters 2. It had both good and bad but I hope of anything that this film is successful Sony works more with the people behind the original film and tell Paul Feig and his writing and editing staff to go f**k their selves. So on that note until next time...... Much love Nate Mc. |
