Warning may contain spoilers..... you have been warned.....
It has been a while since I posted here. Things have been so busy with podcast, work, life, and other things going on that I had not had the time to post as much as I had wanted to. Originally this post was going to many separate post/reviews. We have a lot to cover so let’s get this started......... Going into the HBO Watchmen I had my expectations set to low. It was originally advertised as a show “set” in the watchmen universe created by Alan More and Dave Gibbons. So I figured they would hint at or just cherry pick what they wanted to use.... I had no idea it was a straight up sequel to the original 12 issue comic mini series and that was smart of them to do that. The tv series was well written and acted and wonderfully put together. The use of licensed music was awesome, meaningful, and well used(the title of the season finale may make no sense until you hear it in the song used at the last scene and end credits then everything comes together and you go omg!!!!) and the original score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails fame did a wonderful job to fit in ,convey, build tension, and move the chaos going on. You could still enjoy the series without reading the original story but to get all of the in jokes And references reading the graphic novel is a must! New characters are added creatively into the universe and old characters are further explained, fleshed out and carefully added to this story. This is something that dc has spent years to do and constantly failed at... created a worthy sequel to the watchmen. This was so much better than the 2009 movie. Even though they ended it well I want more but if they don’t do a second season I’m fine with that too because it ended on such a high note... Yes if you are wondering by my long winded thought I did like and enjoy the show very much!!! Next up is the Mandalorian on Disney+ The Star Wars spin off I didn’t know I needed in my life!! This show had me hooked from the first episode. It felt more like Star Wars than most of the films made since the original trilogy. This honestly reminded me why I love Star Wars so much. Yes Baby Yoda aka the child is the Urkle, Fonz, or Bubbles of the show as the popular breakout character that most of the people will most associate with the show. Pedro Pascal ( Game of Thrones) as the Mandalorian is amazing and a great addition to be one my favorite Star Wars characters. The cast is great! I didn’t know how much I liked Former MMA Star Gina Carano until now. This show gave her moments to really shine as an actress. If you are a fan of Star Wars or space westerns this is a must watch. Let’s stay in a galaxy far far away..... as I share my thoughts on Star Wars Rise of Skywalker aka Episode IX. Yes I did enjoy the film it was a fun movie! It made me clap, cheer, cry and excited but........ was it perfect No it wasn’t. Unlike the Marvel cinematic universe Disney had no idea what they wanted to do on a film front as in making a cohesive story. On a business front however that have that planned to a science (long story on how know that I will explain at a different time this blog post is already long enough as it is, but half of what I saw in that video back that Disney asked me to watch in 2018 has ready come to fruition). This felt more like let’s fix what the fans didn’t like about the last Jedi and cram 3 movie worth of info into about 2 1/2 . It felt rush and new additions to the cast felt like they didn’t have enough time to breathe. Was it a bad movie? By no means no! Was it going to replace Empire strikes back as the greatest Star Wars films? no! but I did think it was better that the prequel trilogy( I did like episodes 2 and 3). Some of you have already asked me what I thought about the new Ghostbusters afterlife trailer. I’m actually excited for it. I feel that this movie will do what 2016 film should have done by being connected to the original but introduces new characters. Not leave it up to the the talented people at IDW comics to fix the mess that Paul Feig and crew messed up. Most of you who didn’t read my post about the 2016 film will know I was angry about the film but my anger was directed at Paul Feig and Sony pictures for trying to make us ghostbusters fans out to be women haters or afraid of things that are new then proceed to release a film that was poorly written, paced, and edited and blame on how poorly your film did at the box office on the toxic fandom that they created by deleting well thought out constructive criticisms by the film wouldn’t work form message boards and YouTube comments . Like I said back then I loved the cast but they were expected to make chicken salad out of chicken $#!+. You can tell a group of people at Sony want this to become a thing. Ghostbusters has a loyal fan base and we are a forgiving bunch until you attack us(see above). Some commentators have already tried to stir the pot by saying things like see what this toxic fandom as done caused them to make another ghostbusters movie or it's a Stranger Things rip-off but news to these highly paid internet trolls they have been trying to make a third film since the 1990s even having a script leak called ghostbusters hellbent that elements of the script was used to make the 2009 ghostbusters video game and it’s 2019 remaster. By the way Stranger things is a rip off every media that was made 80s in general made to be a love letter to the decade. It looks like it will be good and I hope it is so my grandchildren can enjoy more Ghostbusters. On that note its time for me to end this post before it becomes longer than Netflix’s the Irishmen. I would like to thank everyone for everything that they had done for me over the past year and I want to wish you all a happy holiday season. Reminder new episodes of the humble podcast known as Shake the Sheets will return in January 2020 as we begin our third season. Which you can find here on the main page of this website or wherever you choose to download or stream podcast from on that note. much love Nate Mc.
